Per diem or Part-time Veterinarians

Dakin Humane Society is seeking Veterinarians who are interested in per diem or part-time work to assist us during our peak season and also to help fill in for some temporary, unexpected absences on our veterinary team. Work is available now and we anticipate ongoing need through at least September.

Our primary need is in our Adoption Center to treat animals after intake, in foster care or at the facility prior to adoption, and clearing from out-of-state transport. Protocols and qualified support staff are in place. Dakin maintains compliance with Shelter Organization Regulations set by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In 2023, Dakin had a 42% increase in intakes compared to the previous year and we were able to complete nearly 2,800 adoptions. We anticipate similar intake rates in 2024 and per diem veterinary coverage in the Adoption Center will be important in maintaining the health of these animals and placing them into foster and adoptive homes quickly.

While coverage in our Adoption Center is our highest priority, we also have occasional need for per diem veterinarians trained in high-volume spay/neuter and for coverage during scheduled vacations for veterinarians in our Pet Health Center (dakinpethealthcenter.org).

Hourly rates are negotiable within an employer set range based on experience, availability, and department. Applicants must have a current Massachusetts veterinary license in good standing.

Please reach out to us at search@dakinhumane.org to learn more. And, please feel free to share this opportunity with others in your network!
